Monaco’s justice system sent a stern message on Monday by jailing three first-time offenders for violently attacking an 18-year-old on the Larvotto promenade early Sunday morning. The offenders, aged 20 to 22 and including two from Nice, were sentenced for violence in a state of drunkenness.

The incident, captured on video surveillance, showed the trio assaulting the victim with punches and kicks until the Monegasque police intervened. The attack began after a verbal altercation over a near-collision in a car park.

In court, the defendants expressed remorse, claiming they never intended for the situation to escalate. Despite their apologies, the judge handed down sentences ranging from six to eight months, including eight days of firm imprisonment and a €1,500 compensation to the victim.

The defendants, all students with clean records, were visibly shocked by the verdict and have the option to appeal.
