Charles Leclerc and quite a few others were holding back tears as the Monegasque driver crossed the line to claim his maiden Monaco Grand Prix victory on Sunday, May 26. A memorable moment commemorated by many across social media as celebrations in the Principality ensued.
The home hero cooled off with an impressive dive into the water of Port Hercule, joining his Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur for a swim.
Someone who know’s well the feeling of a win at home is Lewis Hamilton. The Mercedes man and Leclerc’s future Ferrari teammate was quick to congratulate the Monegasque, as was George Russell. former F1 driver and world champion Nico Rosberg also offered his congratulations, saying “super happy for Charles, winning at home feels special.”
Leclerc’s current teammate, Carlos Sainz shared a wonderful snap of the Ferrari duo, having supported Leclerc on his way to completing the podium in third place.
The Spaniard had front row seats to witness Leclerc’s struggles and consecutive disappointments at his home race in recent years, and had no trouble celebrating this breakthrough victory with his teammate and HSH Prince Albert himself.
Meanwhile, Leclerc’s mother and brothers were there to witness the home hero finally win in Monaco, an emotional moment for all.
Less familiar with the world of Formula 1, but certainly a player on the biggest stage, French football captain and former AS Monaco player Kylian Mbappe waved the chequered flag as Leclerc flew past, confirming a historic win in the Principality. ‘Time for history . Congratulations bro you deserve it, enjoy now,’ Mbappe wrote.
The man of the moment himself kept his message short and sweet, writing; ‘BEST DAY EVER Thank you for everything, I love you all,’ alongside a touching picture of himself with the Prince, and some snaps with the Scuderia.
