A 51 year-old Italian man has been sentenced to 18 months in jail following an assault in a Monaco hotel room in September this year.

The victim told Monaco Criminal Court that she was pursued into her room at the Monte-Carlo Bay hotel by her assailant and forcibly kissed and slapped, as reported by Monaco Matin.

“He threw himself at me and kissed me on the mouth. I pushed him away several times. We fought. In the hallway, he grabs me by the waist, shoulders, I push him away again. Then, he forced his way into my room without my consent… He pushed me into a corner, kissed me about twenty times while pulling my hair, slapped me. He touched my buttocks, my chest. He was very angry.”

The defendant told the court: “I understand everything I caused. It was not my intention to commit violence. I don’t want to go to prison. The hardest part will be explaining to my daughter what happened…”

The assailant – who has a clean criminal record in Italy, Monaco and France – has appealed against the sentence.
