A serious rockfall between the Two Tunnels west of the centre of Cap d’Ail on Tuesday afternoon closed the busy road to all traffic. Monstrous traffic jams ensued on the road from Monaco.
Traffic heading west from Monaco is being diverted to the Moyenne Corniche.
Geological specialists are expected on site on Wednesday morning to assess the danger of further incidents.
Once again, the recent heatwave is suspected as the immediate cause of the problem, as was the case with the boulder that fell on the Total Energies service station on the Moyenne Corniche just west of Monaco last week.
