The Total Energies service station just outside Monaco on the Moyenne Corniche in Cap d’Ail is likely to stay closed for several weeks following in incident in which a large rock fell free from the cliff face above the building.
The rock bounced and landed on top of a car parked near the carwash station, which fortunately was not occupied at the time as the driver was paying for fuel.
The incident, which happened on Wednesday, August 23, has been attributed to very high temperatures that have made the outcrop unstable. Technical expertise has been called in to determine if a danger persists and what would need to be done to rectify the situation.
Total Energies is taking further steps to secure the site, according to the Town Hall of Cap d’Ail.
