Messages that appear at first sight to have originated with the Compagnie des Carabiniers du Prince have been appearing in many email in-boxes across the Principality in recent days.
The emails refer to criminal investigations being undertaken against the recipient involving sexual offences. The email urges recipients to open a PDF document and to respond.
However, the messages are completely fraudulent and the senders are phishing – enabling online fraud by stealing data.
The Government urges recipients of this message to NOT reply to the sender and not to open the attached document in PDF format. Recipients are invited to forward the email received to the address cyber@gouv.mc; Report the sender as undesirable and delete the message.
The Company of the Prince’s Carabinieri never sends such summonses. The only email addresses used by Government Services are of the type xxxx@gouv.mc.
