The National Council is preparing to vote on bill n°1078 in a public extraordinary session on Monday, July 31.

Bill 1078 adopts provisions in the fight against money laundering, the financing of terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

The convening of this extraordinary public session is in line with the wish of the Government to see the bills related to the Council of Europe’s Moneyval report adopted before the summer break.

The elected body has agreed to comply with the Government’s wish despite there being very little time allowed for a proper study of the proposed legislation, which the National Council has blamed on the Government’s “late filing” of texts.

In a statement on Thursday, the National Council said that it is anxious to work in a pragmatic and responsible way to facilitate Monaco’s removal from the special category of “needing enhanced surveillance.

The Moneyval report earlier this year was highly critical of Monaco’s progress in dealing with money laundering issues.
