In 2020, the Principality’s greenhouse gas emissions reached a historically low level with a decrease of 31.8 percent compared to 1990, while the decrease in emissions in 2019 was only 18.8 percent. The energy demand of buildings, transport and waste incineration saw their emissions decrease by 21 percent, 17 percent and 19 percent respectively between 2019 and 2020, according to the annual National Emissions Inventory Report for Greenhouse Gases in the Principality
The Principality had committed to reducing its emissions by 30 percent in 2020 and has achieved its objectives.
The next commitments that Monaco will have to meet are to reduce its emissions of greenhouse gas emissions by 55 percent by 2030 and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
