Four AS Monaco Academy players Eliesse Ben Seghir, Edan Diop, Malamine Efekele and Jordan Semedo Varela have all signed their first professional contracts until 2025 with Monaco, the club announced on Friday, August 5.
Ben Seghir, Diop and Efekele were all members of the Monaco Under 19s squad last season, and all contributed to an impressive campaign that saw the junior Principality side reach the final of the French U19 championship.
The three players all had their first taste of top flight football during the 2022 pre-season campaign, where they played their first few minutes of professional football. However, Diop is no stranger to the world of professional football, as the 17 year-old will be joining his older brother, Sofiane Diop in the professional squad.
Meanwhile, Varela has had quite the summer of his own, having competed in the Euro U19 this summer with the French U19 national team. Through his own merit and a lot of pace, Varela started in three out of four games for ‘Les Bleus’.
With these signings Monaco have kicked off the careers of four exciting young players, and carried on in the club’s tradition of evolving talent from a youth level to the pro stage of football.
“The development of our Academy talent is an essential part of the Club’s sporting project. This is why we do everything possible to ensure that our young players work in the best possible conditions and thus enable them to progress to the highest level,” said Monaco Sporting Director Paul Mitchell, before adding: “Congratulations to Eliesse, Edan, Malamine and Jordan for the path they have taken so far. It is now up to them to continue their efforts to reach their full potential.”
