AS Monaco suffered another loss in their Ligue 1 campaign this season, succumbing to Strasbourg in an away match to forget on Sunday, March 13.
Unfortunately for the visiting Monegasques, it was Strasbourg who scored the first and only goal of the encounter. Kevin Gameiro found Alexander Djiku in a dangerous position, and the Strasbourg no.24 scored with a scissor kick at the 24th minute.
Gelson Martins, Kevin Volland and Sofiane Diop all attempted to equalise, but to no avail. The hosts came close to extending their lead at the 64th minute, but Monaco was saved by the post.
Despite a flood of fresh substitutions on the Monaco side, including Wissam Ben Yedder and Vanderson, the visitors were unable to put one in the back of the net before the match concluded.
At the end of a tough fixture, Monaco walk away with no points, and subsequently remain in eighth place in the Ligue 1 table. The Monegasques’ next fixture will be the second leg of their Europa League round of 16 against Braga at the Stade Louis II on Thursday, March 17.
