On the occasion of the traditional Vassilopita (New Year’s blessing ceremony), the Hellenic Community of Monaco held its annual event on Sunday, January 23, at the Yacht Club de Monaco, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of its presence in the Principality.

Members and friends of the Hellenic Community joined the traditional ceremony under strict coronavirus precautions. During the celebration, the president of the Hellenic Community, Mrs Sophia Vaharis Tsouvelekakis, addressed a presentation to the participants analysing the mission of the Hellenic Community as well as its role and activities in Monaco and the treasurer Dr Panagiotis Kyriazis presented the financial statement.

Honorary guests included his Eminencethe Metropolitan of France Dimitrios, His Excellence Monseigneur Dominique-Marie David, Archbishop of Monaco, SE the Ambassader of France in Monaco Stefanini Laurent, The Archpriest of the Ecumenical Throne Michel Seliniotakis, the Consul of Greece in Monaco Mr Petros Machas and of Israel Mr Benzimra Philippe, the Mayor of Hydra Mr George Koukoudakis and Deputy Mayor Mrs Maria Katsika, and the CEO & Vice President of the Prince Albert II Foundation, Mr Olivier Wenden.
 
The traditional celebration also included a fund-raising tombola session that raised 5.650 euros, donated by the Hellenic Community to the Prince Albert II Foundation to support the project of protecting the iconic species of Mediterranean Monk Seals.
