Monaco reported 96 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, December 29, 16 more than the previous record.

Most new cases are mild infections and there are now 385 residents with mild symptoms recovering at home.

Thirty patients are being treated for coronavirus at Princess Grace Hospital, including 10 residents. One of the residents is in intensive care.

Meanwhile, France’s health minister, Olivier Véran, described the record number of new cases in the country as a “tsunami.” Public Health France reported 208,000 new cases on Wednesday, together with 184 new deaths. The UK government reported 183,037 new cases and 57 new deaths.

In the neighbouring Alpes-Maritimes, the benchmark infection rate fell on Wednesday for the first time in several weeks, to 1,017 per 100,000 from 1,053 on Tuesday.
