The Monaco Government announced on Monday, December 27, that all riders of electric scooters will be required to wear safety helmets from January 24.

The current rules stipulate that only those under 18 should wear helmets.

The Government said that, according to feedback, electric scooters “are not very visible in the urban area despite the mandatory equipment (retro-reflective clothing or equipment, audible warning devices, lights and reflective devices).”

In February 2020 scooters were authorised on the roadway and in bus lanes. However, many users fail to follow the rules, especially with regard to reflective clothing.
