While the world is mesmerised by unfolding events in Afghanistan, another catastrophe has been playing out on the other side of the world as Haiti tries to recover from a murderous earthquake that took more than 2,200 lives.

The magnitude 7.2 quake on August 14 made more than half a million people homeless or without food and water in a country already severely impoverished.

The Monaco Red Cross has donated 50,000 euros in immediate assistance to relief efforts, which continue through the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent. Anyone who would like to make a gift through the Monaco Red Cross can do so at https://www.croix-rouge.mc/en/i-donate/
