The Regional Health Agency (ARS) reported on Tuesday that the benchmark coronavirus infection rate has jumped to 570 from 523 on Monday.
ARS said that there had been a very marked deterioration in the health situation with a clear increase in hospital admissions and the number of patients in intensive care, particularly in the Alpes-Maritimes Department.
One person five in intensive care is below the age of 49. However, given the fact that more older people have been vaccinated than younger generations this should come as no surprise.
The Health Agency said that the situation has been exacerbated by many nursing staff being on holiday.
