A double explosion thought to have been caused by exploding fuel tanks in two vehicles hit the Larvotto Beach construction site, close to the new Palais de la Plage building at just after 21:00 on Thursday night.
Several fire crews attended the scene as flames leapt several metres into the air. Ambulances also attended but there were no reports of injuries.
An eyewitness told NEWS.MC that she lives at the Bahia. “After the first explosion I went out on the terrace and the second explosion shot a fireball up in the air above my terrace.”
The two vehicles were parked on the ramp leading to the Larvotto Beach underground car park. Fire crews remained on the scene to ensure there was no risk to parked vehicles nearby.
