The new lockdown that came into effect on midnight in the Alpes-Maritimes is much lighter than its predecessors. Not only are children attending school, but a range of businesses are open apart from food outlets, including hairdressers, bookshops, record shops and wine retailers.

Travel is permitted within a 10-kilometre radius and there is no time limit for being out and about between 06:00 and 19:00.

There has been considerable confusion about the need to carry a self-certified document, the so-called attestation. According to the French Department of the Interior, no attestation is needed within the 10-kilometre limit, but proof of address should be carried. According to the prefecture, an electricty bill will suffice.
