Forty-seven employees of the Fairmont Hotel have left voluntarily as the establishment slimmed down its workforce, according to management. Six employees left against their wishes, General Manager Pierre-Louis Renou said. The hotel had wanted to reduce the 411-strong workforce by 72 positions.

Mr Renou said the move was essential and necessary for the future success of the hotel which had started to feel the effects of the coronavirus pandemic as soon as last March.

However, the management is looking forward to better times as vaccination campaigns will eventually allow “a certain freedom to travel.”
