The yachting business in Monaco had a very buoyant year, despite the absence of the Monaco Yacht Show, the annual symposium La Belle Classe Super-Yacht heard.

One hundred and twenty participants met at the Monaco Yacht Club last week, some in person and others remotely for the event’s 13th year.

Jamie Edmiston of Edmiston Yachts said that 2020 was the best year ever for the sale of secondhand yachts over 24 metres. The first half of the year had seen sales plunge by 36 percent from 2019, but in August there was a significant upsurge, with worldwide yacht ales up by over 115 percent on the previous year.

However, the charter side of the business didn’t fare so well but the end of travel restrictions is likely to see a significant increase in business, participants agreed.
