Le Phocéa, the four-masted sailing yacht that belonged for several years to French businessman Bernard Tapie, has been destroyed by fire in a blaze just off the Malaysian island of Langkaw. Its crew of seven escaped unharmed after attempting to bring the fire under control.

Malaysian firefighters arrived on the scene after several hours in an effort to extinguish the flames, but apparently failed.

According to a number of press reports, the 70m yacht is currently co-owned by Xavier Niel, the French telecoms magnate who owns the majority stakes in Monaco Telecom and Monaco Matin.
