Meanwhile, Spain announced a partial lockdown nationwide on Sunday, with a curfew between 23:00 and 06:00. Travel between regions may also be banned if local authorities decide so. The new measures have been introduced for a period of six months.

In Italy, bars and restaurants must close from 18:00, while cinemas, swimming pools and gyms will close from Monday. The prime minister said he anticipated the measures would be temporary and said: “By gritting our teeth with these restrictions, we’ll be able to breathe again in December.”
