AS Monaco as a club is naturally short of supporters, given the small population of Monaco. Even when the surrounding French towns are included, the population base is very small for a Ligue 1 club.

However, the club seems not to be doing all it can to attract more supporters to populate the stadium on match days, detractors claim. On Sunday, August 23, fans were told to come to the stadium to pick up tickets in person between 08:30 and 10:30, and then come back at 13:00 for the game itself.

This may have made sense in terms of social distancing, but the fact that the club’s official website doesn’t work efficiently – making it impossible for many supporters to buy tickets online – meant that more than 100 unhappy fans were turned away at the gates and unable to attend the match on Sunday.

Monaco Daily News will be following this up with the club.
