It was a very calm start to the end of lockdown in Monaco on Monday, with few people in the shops and almost empty buses, now back to a normal schedule. Very few people could be seen in the Metropole shopping centre and in the Fontvieille Commercial Centre most people were buying food rather than other items.

One exception was the Nike store next to St Charles, where a long line of would-be shoppers formed outside the shop in the sunshine as customers inside observed the rules of social distancing. Traders are hoping that as the week progresses more people will venture out so that some semblance of normal life returns.

A turning point could be next Monday, May 11, when the lockdown in France loosens and when some pupils in Monaco go back to school for the first time in eight weeks.
