The Stars’n’Bars restaurant is one of 16 international finalists for awards marking the European Week for Waste Reduction, taking place from November 16-24.
The Stars’n’Bars project was a Family Fun Day in collaboration with other local eco-conscious actors in the public and private sectors as well as individuals who make up the “Monaco Green Team” initiated in April 2019. The public event featured nearly two dozen workshops, exhibits and games plus fashion and art projects. The European Week for Waste Reduction was launched in 2009 by the European Commission and is an international campaign to raise public awareness about the need to reduce, reuse and recycle waste.
Last year participants in more than two dozen countries initiated nearly 17,000 waste-related activities during a single week. The Principality of Monaco joined for the first time in 2019, sponsoring more than 50 separate waste reduction events including the Stars’n’Bars fun fair. The Department of the Environment oversaw all Monaco projects. This summer, five of the 16 finalists will be declared winners of the EWWR award in their category – government, non-profit associations, businesses, schools and private citizens.According to Stars’n’Bars cofounder Kate Powers, “Everyone who participated during the week and created an individual activity to draw attention to this enormous problem is a winner. The cooperation and solidarity among all our Monaco partners was so motivating and inspiring that we can’t wait to work together again on the campaign next November.”
