Teams from Monaco’s sanitation department deployed from 05:00 on Monday, March 23, to disinfect pavements, handrails and lifts in the fight against the coronavirus.
“It is important that we commit all of our teams and all of our resources to reduce the risk of contamination of Monegasques, residents and employees. I would like to thank the Management of the Monegasque Sanitation Company (SMA) and its teams for their mobilisation and their responsiveness,” said Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Minister of Infrastructure, Environment and Town Planning.
The spray used is a biodegradable bactericide, smelling of “pines from the moors,” the Government said. In addition to the use of spraying lances and tanks containing 8,000 litres, operatives have been provided with equipment to manually disinfect elevator buttons, escalator ramps and handrails in pedestrian tunnels.
These operations, involving 30 SMA employees, will continue for seven days a week.
