A 33 year-old Romanian national took New Year Eve hilarity too far when he jumped on a young woman who was making her way home to Beausoleil following the annual celebrations in Monaco, Monaco’s Criminal Court has heard.
He mimicked a sexual act and rubbed his genitals against his victim before pulling her hair and running away. Although he wasn’t apprehended at the time, he was arrested several weeks later for drunkenness outside One Monte-Carlo, and the cases were linked by the police.
The former construction worker told the court that he was drunk at the time of the assault, but this was not accepted as a serious defence and he was given a suspended jail sentence of three months and fined 75 euros. The victim was not in court to hear the case, having decided not to have to relive the ordeal.
