A Monaco Resident has set a new record for blood alcohol levels while driving. The Monaco Criminal Court was told that the Polish national, in her forties, had hit 3 grams per litre of blood, an all-time high for a woman driver.
The court heard that a witness reported the defendant to the police after seeing her drunk behind the wheel of her car in a car park following her participation in a charity event on Friday, December 13.
“I am ashamed for my daughter and my husband,” the handcuffed woman told the court. “I don’t particularly remember drinking. Three glasses? Maybe more? This has been a lesson to me and will never happen again,” she said, adding that her three days in custody had given her time to realise the seriousness of her offence.
The prosecution asked for a suspended jail sentence, a fine of between 2,000 and 3,000 euros, and a two-year suspension of the defendant’s licence.
The court took into account the approaching holiday season and sentenced the guilty party – described as a frequent participant in Monaco’s high society – to a one-month jail sentence, suspended, a fine of 3,000 euros, and a one-year licence suspension.
