The Principality has financed the construction of a cardiology unit within the Luxembourg Mother and Child Hospital in Bamako, working together with the Monegasque Association SHARE, the Foundation for Children, Associations and Individuals. This unit carries out catheterisation procedures to dilate or open the arteries following a cardiovascular attack.
The routine operation in the unit took place on the morning of Wednesday, September 4, in the presence of a Monegasque delegation, including Dr François Bourlon, Medical Director of the Cardio-Thoracic Centre of Monaco, and vice-president of SHARE.
HE Mr Michel Hamala Sidibé, Minister of Health and Social Affairs of Mali, visiting the unit, said: “We are here to support a promising initiative. We have one of the most advanced services in terms of new medical technologies in the field of cardiology.” Dr Bourlon added: “It is an extraordinary asset for Malians to have a cardiac catheterisation room.”
Construction and equipment of the unit started on April 7, 2017, and cost about 1.5 million euros.
