An inexperienced and over-ambitious young driver flipped a Citroen Ami while taking the Fairmont Hairpin corner far too quickly at approximately 18:00 on Saturday, March 11.

The 22 year-old driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash, according to the public prosecutor’s office of Monaco, but he was driving the corner multiple times at a speed that was clearly far too fast.

The Citroen Ami can be driven without a licence while restricted to a top speed of 45 kilometres per hour. With such narrow wheels and small wheelbase, the car did not have the profile or downforce to stick to the ground and a flip ensued. The incident was filmed and can be seen below.

Four of the Principality’s firefighters managed to flip the car upright with just their own strength, demonstrating the sheer lack of weight of the four wheeler.

Meanwhile, the driver and his 16 year-old passenger, both French residents, were taken to the Princess Grace Hospital Centre with minor bruises.
