A resident of Amsterdam has appeared at Monaco’s Criminal Court after failing to pay a sizeable bill at Buddha Bar.

The total of 1,198 euros included a bottle of wine at 500 euros, which a lady client of the nightclub offered to share with him.

The police were called at 02:00 when he failed to pay up, local French-language daily Monaco Matin reported.

The defendant in the dock pleaded to be be repatriated. He repeated many times an appeal to be helped to get back home.

The very tall culprit – imposing in the dock despite the handcuffs – had arrived by limousine in Monaco from Paris and failed to pay the driver the charge of 2,600 euros. He is due back in court on February 28 to answer to that offence.

Court President Jérôme Fougeras Lavergnolle remarked that the defendant had committed similar offences in Paris in 2017 and again in 2021.

The prosecution asked for four months in jail, but the court decided on one month. He will not have far to travel on the last day of February to answer to the taxi charge.
