HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and Renaud Muselier, President of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Deputy President of the Regions of France, have met to discuss bilateral relations.
Top of the agenda was the proposed Academy of the Sea, an ambitious project to establish an educational institute with its focus on various aspects of our knowledge of the sea.
The teaching platform, in French, would deal with the law of the sea, the geopolitics of the seas and oceans, as well as environmental and related issues.
Renaud Muselier said: “If there is one Mediterranean state that is ahead in the maritime domain, it is the Principality of Monaco. For more than a century, it has been equipping itself with infrastructure, tools and major institutions.”
“His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco introduced me to the Académie de la Mer project, a real place of training around three clear priorities: the law of the sea, international relations on issues related to the oceans and the sea, and major environmental themes,” Mr Muselier said.
He added that he would “like the region to support this absolutely essential dynamic. I will therefore be present next March in Monaco, on the occasion of Oceans Week, in order to present the contours of this regional commitment alongside the Principality.”
Prince Albert thanked Renaud Muselier and said he will delighted to welcome him in March in Monaco to work out together the part that the South region wishes to take in this educational project. He added that the Academy of the Sea project ties in perfectly with the Mediterranean of the future.
