Christophe Béchu, France’s Minister of Ecological Transition, said on Friday that more than 100 municipalities have no natural water supplies and are being provisioned by water tankers.

His announcement came on the same day that the French government activated an inter-ministerial crisis unit.

Mr Béchu warned that “a certain number of restrictions will be tightened” to avoid running dry in areas that have long-term water shortages.

The minister told regional newspaper La Provence that adaptation is “an obligation.”

“We will have to get used to episodes of this type.”

Temperatures in the PACA region are likely to hit 40 in some places next week, while along the coast daytime temperatures will be between 30 and 34.
