Motorists filling up along the Riviera at weekends may find trouble finding petrol over the summer period.

French rules prevent large vehicles – including petrol tankers – from being on the road on Saturdays. Only petrol stations on motorways are exempted from the ban.

Service stations that are replenished on Fridays have to hope that supplies can meet the heavy demand during very busy holiday travel weekends.

There is no underlying shortage of fuel, just a delivery problem. Monaco drivers are advised to fill up on weekdays, and especially towards the end of the week.
