A 34 year-old man drowned off Larvotto Beach earlier this month after going for a late night swim.
A companion raised the alarm when he failed to return to the shore.
The resident of Roquebrune was still alive when he was found motionless close to the shore, but attempts by the police and fire service to revive him were not successful and he was declared dead on the scene.
Although an autopsy was performed, the results of which are still awaited, it is believed that the victim had drunk heavily before he entered the sea.
