Guided visit to Eileen Gray’s E1027 villa

An insightful guided tour of the E1027 villa, designed and built in 1929 by legendary Irish architect and furniture designer, Eileen Gray (1878-1976) in Roquebrune Cap Martin for her friend Jean Badovici, with whom she was romantically involved and who was also an architect.

Following seven years under restoration, the villa reopened in 2021 and is a beautiful illustration of this pioneer’s work at the forefront of the modern movement of architecture, with its shape, reminiscent of an ocean liner with a stunning Mediterranean Sea backdrop.

The villa interior contains remarkable furnishings and decoration by Gray.

The guided visit will explore the history of the design, construction and misadventures of the villa and its creator.

A 5 pm visit is followed by an aperitif in the garden. Price (30 EUR) doesn’t include transport to Roquebrune -Cap-Martin.

Moby Dick organ improvisations at Monaco Cathedral

Based on the novel by Herman Melville read by Thibault de Montalembert accompanied on organ by Baptiste-Florian Marle-Ouvrard.

Thibault de Montalembert: “When Batiste-Florian Marle-Ouvrard contacted me to do something together for the Monaco Organ Festival, I almost immediately thought of Moby Dick. This master book, undoubtedly one of the greatest in world literature of the 19th century, is never very far in my memories. Handy in my library. The ocean, immense, unpredictable! Captain Ahab’s Desperate Hunt! Moby Dick, the mythical white whale! Object of all fears and desires! Which always escapes the incessant desire of the seeker of the absolute! What jubilation to intertwine the words of Melville and the breath of the great organs in a dialogue that is alternately fluent, aerial, suspended or, on the contrary, angry, rumbling, thunderous! It is therefore with fear and trembling, as it should be when attacking the Leviathan, but also with jubilation that we propose for an hour to take our audience on a journey into the heart of darkness, to paraphrase another great writer in love with the ocean. »

Free entry. This concert is part of the 17th International Organ Festival and will begin at 17:00 on July 3 in Monaco Cathedral.

Newton, Riviera

The title of the exhibition clearly circumscribes a geography, that of the Côte-d’Azur to Bordighera, in Italy, which Helmut Newton photographed from the 1960s until his death in the early 2000s. “A Riviera” is thus a pretext to explore the work of a major photographer of the 20th century in a different way, through now famous images, like others rarely presented to the public.

At Villa Sauber until 13.11.2022.
