Brother and sister Michele and Camilla Charlotte Ambrosio or just Team Ambrosio MC have broken yet another unprecedented record at the Monte-Carlo Country Club members’ tournament.
Last year Camilla Charlotte became the youngest player in the history of the club to win an adult tournament by winning the mixed doubles in the team with her brother. Apparently her dad had to push hard for her registration in the tournament as she appeared too young to the organisers to play in an adult tournament; however she went on to beat the historic mixed doubles champions of the club and ultimately became the youngest tennis player ever at MCCC to win an adult tennis tournament at the age of nine years old.
This year TEAM Ambrosio MC went above and beyond as Michele won the final of the 13/14 years category, beating Leo Ljubicic, after what may remain in the history of the club as the most beautiful final played between two players who both play one-handed backhand. He also won the 15/16 years old category. Camilla Charlotte won the 11/12 year category and 15/16 years old category.
Out of five tournaments played they came home with five victories, a record that can only be equaled but never exceeded within the current rules of the club.
Camilla Charlotte also won last weekend at the French League Trophy in Aix-en-Provence on Sunday and is currently number one in her age category in Monaco and Southern France for the 2020/2021 season, and unbeaten against girl players of the same age since she started playing.
Her season wins also count two victories at the MCCC International Kinder Tournament in the categories 1O years-old and 11 years-old, Nice Gorbella 11/12 years-old and Nice Gorbella 13/14 years-old tournaments.
The victories do not stop there. Michele, who is also a football captain, a winner of the Monegasque language competition and the holder of the Prince Albert II first prize award as the best in 10th grade (classe de 3ème) student, has been selected by the Monegasque Olympic Committee this year and has been granted the status of an elite sports athlete in the Principality. He is one of the 40 some students that have a special school schedule to accommodate the hours needed for their training.
“I am an accountant and my wife is an eye doctor”, says the father, Giuseppe Ambrosio, a Monaco resident and also the Honorary Consul for Saint Vincent: “We are not particularly sporty people but when we saw the aptitude and the talent emerging we hired the best coaches we could find.”
The schedule is tight and they train all over the Riviera, mostly in Bordighera (Italy) at Piatti Tennis Centre and in Monaco from Monday to Sunday between MCCC and TCM.
It’s not always an easy sail and it takes a lot of effort.
“The team effort includes a network of international professionals from the Piatti Tennis Centre, The Monegasque Tennis Federation, MCCC, Tennis Club Monaco, USCA and FMC Academy.”
Team Ambrosio has its own Facebook page and it attracts a lot of attention, and also an interest in what the future holds for such prodigies.
