Prince Philip, who died aged 99 on Friday, April 9, enjoyed a long association with the Principality. It was here, in 1944, that his father, Prince Andrew of Greece, died at the Metropole Hotel. Prince Philip wore his father’s signet ring for the rest of his life.

While still in command of a Royal Navy ship in 1951, Prince Philip visited Monaco on a courtesy visit as commander of HMS Magpie. Prince Rainier hosted the Prince for dinner. In 1966 Prince Philip returned on an official visit to help mark the 100th anniversary of Monte-Carlo.

Also in 1966, the Prince attended a service at St.Paul’s Anglican Church during ‘English Week.’
