A new educational partnership was formalised at the Palais de Justice in Monaco on Thursday, August 29. The agreement was signed between the Institut Monégasque de Formation aux Professions Judiciaires (IMFPJ) and the law faculties of the Université Côte d’Azur and Aix-Marseille Université to establish the first Inter-University Diploma (DIU) in Monegasque Law.
The signing ceremony featured Sylvie Petit-Leclair, Secretary of State for Justice, and Professor Jeanick Brisswalter, President of the Université Côte d’Azur, alongside Professor Yves Strickler, Scientific Director of the IMFPJ and the project’s initiator, and Professor Jean-Baptiste Perrier, appointed by Aix-Marseille Université to lead the program in Aix-en-Provence. This partnership marks a significant step forward for Monegasque law and for the future lawyers of the Principality.
The new DIU will allow law students from the Université Côte d’Azur and Aix-Marseille Université to begin training in Monegasque law alongside their regular studies over a period of three years, starting this academic year. From September 2025, Université Paris-Panthéon-Assas, already involved in the discussions, will join the partnership with the IMFPJ.
This initiative will provide students in Nice and Aix-en-Provence this year—and in Paris next year—with a comprehensive understanding of Monegasque legal and institutional culture, contributing to the global influence of Monaco’s legal framework.
