HSH Prince Albert attended the Games of the Small States of Europe in Malta on Tuesday, a day that saw Monaco’s athletes win 10 podium places.

European states with much larger populations are included in the event: Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro and San Marino, as well as Monaco.

Speaking to Monaco Info, Prince Albert said: ““The first medals have come, which is a good omen. There is a great team spirit in our delegation, a competitive spirit, but also joy in participating in this big event. Our delegation is proof of a great vitality and cohesion in sport in the Principality.”

President of the European Judo Union, Dr László Toth, said: “Having Albert II visiting the judo venue was a great pleasure and honour for us. The same goes to the Prince of Liechtenstein and Prince of Luxembourg. I am really delighted that they did not only visit but also enjoyed watching our event.”

The Games finish on Saturday, June 3.
