The highly-anticipated Miami Grand Prix bore entirely expected results, as Max Verstappen claimed a first place finish from teammate Sergio Perez to lead home another Red Bull 1-2 finish, having started the race all the way back in P9.
Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc began the race in P7, and endured 57 laps of racing only to finish in seventh place. The Monegasque was passed by Verstappen on only the fourth lap, as he battled Kevin Magnussen in a surprisingly speedy Haas.
Leclerc’s luck did not hold out, as he fell down to P12 halfway through the race. The Scuderia Ferrari man managed to claw back the places as the end drew near, even improving on his starting position. However, a determined Lewis Hamilton overtook Leclerc for P6 with two laps to go, having started the race in P13.
In the end, Leclerc settled for the same seventh place that he started in, with title hopes rapidly racing off into the distance as he continues to sit in sixth place in the drivers’ standings and the two Red Bull drivers battle it out at the top.
Hopefully a home crowd can inspire some confidence in the Ferrari team, as the Imola circuit will host the Emilia Romagna GP in Italy on Sunday, May 21. This will be the last race before the iconic Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, May 28.
