Il Sorpasso – The Art of the Cinema

The Audiovisual Institute of Monaco in partnership with the association Dante Aligheri presents the 1962 film Il Sorpasso directed by Dino Risi. The quintessence of Italian film, Il Sorpasso has well-defined characters, delicious dialogue and fierce critique of a society adrift. With Vittorio Gassman and Jean-Louis Trintignant as the main characters, this road movie takes you from Rome’s dazzling Via Veneto to the glittering beaches of the Italian Riviera.

In 2008, the film was selected to enter the list of the 100 Italian films to be saved (100 film italiani da salvare). The list was created with the aim to report “100 films that have changed the collective memory of the country between 1942 and 1978”. On Tuesday, May 2 at 20:00 at the Théâtre des Variétés. The Tales of Mother George – French Theatre for children

In George Sand’s study, the writer’s granddaughter Aurore has come to play with her acolyte: the dog Fadet. She waits patiently for her grandmother, who has been writing late into the night, to wake up for her lessons. But today, reading the pages left on her desk, she will as if by magic conjure up the protagonists of the “grandmother’s tales”. Setting personal boundaries is one of the most essential tools for healthy livingIt also happens to be one of the hardest tools to deploy.

The digital age has blurred our boundaries. For example, more of us work from home, at least some of the time. Our work phones are often the same as our private phones. Basically, life today is complicated. The need to have healthy boundaries for healthy living is key.

Mademoiselle Gabrielle Chanel – Theatre

The adventures of Coco, the life of Gabrielle, the destiny of Chanel. World famous, the Chanel brand is one of France’s leading lights. This musical tells the story of that incredible journey, through the eyes of thirty characters, performed by five actors and singers. With them, the show spans La Belle Époque, and Les Années Folles, two world wars, the swinging sixties… And shows us how an orphan from a modest background, with a rare personality and talent, came to be a global symbol of style and haute couture.

Scones ‘Bake Off’ – Informal Event

A chance to participate in baking scones while watching the Coronation broadcast at the St. Paul’s Church Chaplain’s apartment. Alison Bearn, the wife of Reverend Hugh, is on a quest to adjust her English scone recipes to French ingredients. The scones will be served after the special service at the Church Library on Sunday (see below). Special Coronation service at St Paul’s Anglican Church 

To celebrate King’s Charles Coronation, a special service will be held at St. Paul’s Church Monte-Carlo on Sunday May 7. It will be only the third-ever service served by the newly appointed Reverend Hugh Bearn, Chaplain to His Majesty The King, in Monaco. On this special occasion, Father Hugh, on behalf of the Church Council, offers a generous invitation to young people and adults alike to St Paul’s Anglican Church. “Holy Communion will be celebrated at 10.30 am during which our Choir and guest musicians, under the baton of Errol Girdlestone, will offer magisterial anthems and lead fitting congregational hymns to celebrate His Majesty’s anointing to this sacred Office.”

The service will be followed by a toast to His Majesty and traditional British fare of sandwiches and scones with jam and cream served at the Church Library.  On Sunday, May 7 at 10:30 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church Monte Carlo.

Monaco-Dolceacqua 500 – Exhibition

The first temporary exhibition of the season in the Grands Appartements of the Prince’s Palace. A photographic exhibition entitled “Monaco-Dolceacqua 500” by artist Julien Spiewak. These photos are part of a series entitled Corps de Style which compares the shapes of the human body with a work of art or furniture. This exhibition is one of the events celebrating the twinning between Dolceacqua and Monaco, which will be officially concluded on November 3, five centuries to the day after an oath of loyalty to Augustin Grimaldi, lord of Monaco, was pledged by the syndics of Dolceacqua. George Condo – Humanoids – Exhibition

For George Condo, “the Humanoid is not a science fiction monster, but a depiction that uses traditional methods to bring a person’s inner emotions to the surface”. Over the course of eight sections, the exhibition traces the continuity of a profuse body of work that ranges from “space beings” to Who’s Who, from Guido Reni to Bugs Bunny. Featuring specially produced paintings, the exhibition offers a glimpse of the artist’s process of invention – as crazy as it is erudite – of humanoids. From the Calypso to Underwater Painting – Exhibition
