The amounts dedicated to Public Development Aid (ODA) by the Prince’s Government have been notified to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) for the first time.
ODA is the public guarantee of the Principality’s commitment to solidarity at the international level.
It was in 1993, the year Monaco joined the United Nations, that the first partnerships aid were initiated at the instigation of Prince Rainier III.
The accession of HSH Prince Albert II saw the amount of aid considerably increased, with the creation in 2007 of a dedicated structure – the Department of International Cooperation – within the Department of Foreign Relations and Cooperation.
“Monaco is making progress on several international development financing objectives and intends to be today among the most supportive countries in the world per capita (nearly 600 euros of ODA per inhabitant in 2021),” said Isabelle Rosabrunetto, Managing Director of the Department of External Relations and Cooperation.
Monaco’s Official Development Assistance policy is part of the Agenda 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The development of human resources and the fight against poverty are its priorities.
Figures published on Wednesday April 12 reveal a rise of 6.7 percent in the resources that Monaco devotes to development aid, although no actual figure has been published.
