Five people were rescued by the Monaco fire department shortly after 10:00 on Thursday morning after a blaze broke out on the first floor of a four-storey residence – Sim Palace – at 8 blvd. du Jardin Exotique.
Eight fire engines and 28 firefighters arrived at the scene and a turntable ladder was used to bring five people to safety, including two French citizens, one Mauritanian, a Portuguese national and an Italian. Their ages ranged from 35 to 84.
The fire and thick smoke appear to have originated in an electrical panel.
