From Saturday, April 1, Monaco will licence a certain number of French drivers to collect passengers in the Principality.

Although this had been the status quo for several years, the regulations were changed to allow only Monaco taxis to pick up passengers.

Announcing the changes on Wednesday, March 29, the Government said that the decision was made in the interests of the public, placing the customer “at the heart of the system.”

A total of 320 permits will be issued at a cost of 600 euros per seven-month season. All but 20 will go to VTC operators, drivers of chauffeur-driven limos (voitures de tourisme avec chauffeur).
