A delegation of Mauritian entrepreneurs, led by Economic Development Board Mauritius in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Mauritius in France, was in Monaco on Tuesday March 21, for a first contact between business leaders of both countries.
Organised in the form of a forum, the meeting began with bilateral presentations that enabled Mauritian companies to get to know the business ecosystem of Monaco and for Monegasque companies to discover the economic potential of the island of Mauritius and its immense maritime space made up of many other islands of the Indian Ocean that are part of the Republic of Mauritius.
With a very diverse population of 1.3 million inhabitants, at the crossroads of Asian and other cultures, Mauritius is naturally a crossroads open to the world where the English language rubs shoulders with French.
Benefiting from a stable democratic regime, the Mauritian economy has developed in many sectors such as tourism, finance, real estate, industry, new technologies and activities related to the sea.
Since 2020, Mauritius has been recognized as a “high income” country by the World Bank, the highest category in the ranking.
Sachin Mohabeer, Deputy Managing Director of EDB Mauritius and Heerun Ghurburrun, Commercial Affairs and Investment Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Mauritius in France highlighted the many possibilities for synergies between two countries that have obvious points in common.
Cooperation already exists for some companies in the Principality. Patrick Lecoy, CEO and founder of EAD, a member of the MEB specialised in support for international business development, testified to the quality of its Mauritian partners and the many opportunities offered, in particular to conquer new markets in East and South Africa.
Conversely, David Martial, a Mauritian entrepreneur spoke about his fruitful experience of working with Monaco.
The rest of the forum took place in the form of informal meetings between the Mauritian entrepreneurs, operating mainly in real estate in the broad sense, and Monegasques. Later, the heads of the delegation also met with Michel Gramaglia, Honorary Consul of Mauritius in Monaco and the leaders of the Club des Monegasque entrepreneurs in Africa in the company of Justin Highman, Deputy Director General of the MEB.
