As a result of refinery blockades and other strike action in opposition to the raising of the pensionable age in France from 62 to 64, more than 25 percent of service stations in the neighbouring Alpes-Maritimes are suffering shortages of certain fuels, and the most affected is Unleaded 95, the most-used.
In response, the local prefecture has ordered a limit of 30 litres per private customer, or about 60 euros-worth of fuel. The maximum for heavy vehicles has been set at 120 litres of diesel.
Bernard Gonzalez, the Prefect, called on the personal responsibility of everyone in order to limit the effect of shortages, which are expected to get worse before they get better.
The 30 litre limit will be in effect at least until March 27.
