HSH Prince Albert made a veiled reference to the war in Ukraine in his traditional New Year speech in which he offered His support to everyone “affected by war, oppression, violence, and intolerance in our troubled world.”

He continued: “We will continue to reach out our hands to mobilise our efforts and to devote all our energy to the cause of peace, mutual acceptance, and solidarity. For the sake of our children, we must imagine and fashion a reconciled, balanced world.”

The Sovereign Prince connected His wish for peace with the importance of fighting climate change and working for the cause of environmental preservation.

The year 2023 signals the 30th anniversary of Monaco joining the United Nations, to which the Principality has been strongly committed over the intervening years. Very importantly, 2023 marks the centenary of the birth of Prince Rainier III. Prince Albert said of ‘the builder prince:’ “He made Monaco a modern and dynamic constitutional monarchy, outward-looking and active on the international stage.”

The video presentation concluded with wishes for a Happy New Year, in French, Monegasque and English, from Princess Charlene, Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella.
