The Scottish blood donation agency, Scotblood, has asked donors who have travelled to Monaco and parts of France to delay giving blood.
“From Thursday, October, we will be asking blood and platelet donors who have travelled to some areas of France and to Monaco to wait before donating. This is because of a small outbreak of Dengue fever, a viral infection spread by mosquitoes,” Scotblood said.
In addition to donors who have been in Monaco, any donors who have travelled to the French regions of Hautes-Pyrénées, Haute-Garonne, Pyrénées-Orientales, Var, and Alpes-Maritimes are included in the alert.
The agency advises any affected donors to hold off for 28 days to see if any symptoms appear.
