The Government announced 152 new positive test results on Sunday, January 9, following 135 on Saturday and 127 on Friday.
These unprecedented figures bear witness to the transmissibility of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus virus.
The Monaco Government had also announced on Saturday that the six most recent deaths from the virus were in unvaccinated people. All were over the age of 70.
As has been established in much larger European countries, the risks of hospitalisation from the milder form of the virus are much lower than was the case with previous variants.
The most at-risk individuals are those who have not been vaccinated, the elderly, the obese, and those with chronic underlying health conditions.
While the UK has made a number of catastrophic mistakes in public health decisions since the start of the pandemic, its minister of education, Nadhim Zahawi, may have set the tone for future health decisions across the world when he said on Sunday that the UK needs to move from ‘pandemic’ to ‘endemic,’ and respond to coronavirus accordingly.
Also on Sunday, the Monaco Government said that 154 Monaco residents had fully recovered from coronavirus over the previous 24 hours. Forty-one patients were being treated for coronavirus at Princess Grace Hospital, including 16 residents. None of the residents is in intensive care.
