The Monaco government announced on Thursday, April 15, that the Historic Monaco Grand Prix will be open to the Principality’s public, albeit in a smaller capacity than in the years before the coronavirus pandemic.
The highly anticipated event brings race cars from yesteryear back onto the famous Monaco GP circuit for a celebration of old school rock and roll racing, and local fans of Formula 1 and its rich history will be pleased with its return this year.
Only qualifying and race day will be open to the public on April 24 and 25 respectively, while 6,500 spectators will be permitted on the stands, equaling just a third of their capacity. The precious places are reserved for Monaco residents, employees and hotel guests only.
Furthermore, the sale of alcohol and its consumption will be prohibited in public places.
No decision has yet been taken by the government on the fate of the Formula 1 GP, but Thursday’s announcement sparks hope that the crown jewel of the F1 calendar will be able to go ahead in public and not behind closed doors.
